Delegate’s January 2025 Update: Shaping the Future of Nutrition In November, the House of Delegates (HOD) met to discuss how the HOD can contribute to the Academy's current Fiscal Year Priorities. These priorities focus on three key areas: Advocacy, Interprofessional Education, and Public/Research/Media. Strengthening Our Voice: Advocacy The HOD aims to solidify the Academy's role as a powerhouse for nutrition advocacy. This includes increasing access to Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and supporting efforts towards licensure compacts. Delegates are committed to engaging members in advocacy activities and sharing success stories to inspire action. Dietetics: A STEM Designation for the Future The Academy is actively pursuing recognition of dietetics as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) profession. This designation offers numerous benefits, including enhanced recognition and credibility for the field, increased funding and grant opportunities, and a more diverse and inclusive profession. To achieve this goal, the HOD will work to improve the Evidence Analysis Library (EAL) and explore opportunities for interprofessional collaboration. Elevating RDNs in the Public Eye To elevate the public's perception of Registered Dietitians (RDNs) as the premier source of food and nutrition expertise, the Academy is collaborating with strategic partners to gain insights into public opinion. This information will inform a new media campaign highlighting the vital role of RDNs in maintaining individual and community health. Additionally, the Academy will develop and disseminate resources on emerging nutrition topics. How You Can Get Involved The success of these priorities hinges on member participation!
