Description: This interactive, hands-on session will focus on recognizing signs of common micronutrient deficiencies using nutrition focused physical exam of the hair, eyes, mouth/oral cavity, nails, and skin. Participants will be able to learn about common micronutrient deficiencies, play an interactive game to reinforce learning and apply the knowledge gained through role play using simulated case studies. As a result of attending this session you will: 1. distinguish micronutrient deficiencies using nutrition focused physical exam techniques presented 2. apply the techniques learned within your clinical setting during patient assessment, and 3.

Speaker Bio: Sunitha Zechariah is a PhD candidate in the Applied Health Sciences program with the department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at Augusta University, Augusta, GA. Her research interests are malnutrition, tool development specific to nutrition focused physical exam and interprofessional practice among dietitians. She works full-time as an Associate Director of Dietetic Internship with Morrison Healthcare. In her role, she oversees the management of Morrison Healthcare Distance Dietetic Internship and also serves as the clinical nutrition teaching faculty. Most recently, Sunitha worked as the Division Director of Clinical Support for Morrison Healthcare. Prior to that, she served as the Clinical Nutrition Manager at University Health System and as the Regional Clinical Nutrition Manager for the Georgia/South Carolina regions for Morrison Healthcare. Sunitha’s previous experience comprises of varied dietetic related positions in several countries including India, Australia, and Singapore. She completed her B.S. and M.S degrees in Nutrition and Dietetics in India. She completed her M.S (Honors) degree in Nutrition Research from Australia. She also completed the coordinated program in dietetics at the University of Alabama.
